Sheriff Joseph A. Gerace |

The overall responsibilities
of the Technical Services Division are to provide technical
support to the Office of the Sheriff, 42 Fire Departments,
Department of Public Facilities (formerly Public Works), the
county Emergency Dispatch Center, Emergency Services, CARTS,
District Attorney, Coroners, Environmental Health, and the
County Executive in Chautauqua County |

Approximately 1200 mobile units,
800 portables, 70 base station radios, the emergency alert system
for schools, hospitals, and fire departments, the county
microwave system (police and fire), and the DPF microwave link
fall under the responsibility of Technical Services |

This includes the installation and removal of two-way radios,
warning lights and controls, scanners, sirens, cellular phones,
and other electronics work for county owned vehicles, to reduce
the need to hire outside contractors |

All repairs have been completed
down to the component level. As technology changes, this too is
changing to a board level repair |

The installation
of a Microwave Backbone system has been completed and now
connects the remote radio tower together. In addition to the
tower sites it also connects the Mayville Office Complex to
Jamestown City Hall, South County Office Building, Dunkirk City
Hall and Dunkirk North County Office's. This reduces the
Telephone and Computer inter-office connection costs. The next
phase is the Statewide Wireless Network currently being
installed by the State in Chautauqua and Erie Counties of New
York as the first build out. The State will be utilizing some of
the infrastructure we already have in place. |
