Our Training Division consists of a Training Director and a part-time secretary. The facility is located in the Community Services Center Building on the campus of Jamestown Community College.

Community Services Programs
The Training Division, through the Sheriff’s Academy, continues to administrate the Dan Feather Memorial Scholarship. This Scholarship was established via the Community Foundation and is administrated by the Sheriff’s Academy to be presented each year to the recruit that meets the scholarship requirements.

The Training Director is responsible for all Sheriff’s Office training for law enforcement personnel. The Training Division has also encompassed the responsibility for training of outside departments and administrating the Basic Police Course within the Zone 13 Training Region of New York State. The Sheriff’s Training Division has taken a lead role in regional training, which has drawn law enforcement officers from throughout Western New York, Northern Pennsylvania and Ohio. In addition, The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office is a NYS Accredited agency due in large part from the tireless efforts by the Training Division.

The Academy continues to post law enforcement employment opportunities in its attempt to assist the candidates. The employment rate of our graduates stands at over 95%.

Basic Course for Police Officers

The Basic Course for Police Officers continues to draw a considerable amount of inquiry.  The Training Division processed approximately 100 applicants and accepted 34 candidates into the program in August of 2003. The Basic Course for Police Officers continues to improve and update its curriculum to meet the needs of our changing community. The State has increased and reorganized the Basic Course outline that mirrors our current program.
