Emergencies can occur at any time.  For the frail elderly and the disabled, emergencies can be especially threatening if the person is not able to reach the telephone to call 911. My office has a computer system that gives us the capability to provide reassurance that you or a loved one will be contacted at least once a day, thus ensuring that help will be dispatched if an emergency has occurred. I urge everyone who may benefit from this type of assurance to contact one of the offices listed below.

Are You O.K. FAQ's

What is "Are You O.K.?:

A computer located in the Sheriff's 911 Emergency Dispatch Center calls an elderly or home bound individual of any age on a daily basis to ensure that they are O.K.

How does the program work?:

At a time you designate, the computer will automatically dial your number and wait for an answer.  When you pick up the telephone you will hear a brief message.  Once you speak, the computer assumes you are O.K. and the call is completed.

Will I be speaking to a live person?:

No.  A pre-recorded message from the sheriff will play when you answer the phone.

What if I can't answer the telephone immediately?:

The computer will redial your number within a half hour.  If you do not respond to the second call, an alarm goes off and the dispatcher will telephone whomever you have designated as contact people who have a key to your house or apartment.

What happens if the contact people can't be reached?:

The Sheriff's Office or the police department in your area will go to your residence to check on your well-being.

How much does this service cost?:

There is no charge for this service.  It is FREE for residents of Chautauqua County.

How do I sign up?:

Simply call the Sheriff's Office at 716-753-2131
