| The Mounted Patrol,
known as the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Mounted Division, has been
serving continuously since 1950. The unit is on-call and available at
the discretion of the Sheriff to assist with traffic or parking details,
search and rescue, security and crowd control, police escorts, or other
assignments where a police presence is desired. This Division provides a
highly visible, popular, and positive public relations aspect to our
county’s Sheriff’s Office and to law enforcement in general.
Each member of this Division serves as a Special Deputy and volunteers
their time and expenses of participation. The personal time commitment
is significant, and with the initial and maintenance costs of a good
horse, equipment, and transportation, the members are making a
substantial contribution both as individuals and collectively as an
organization.

The Mounted
Division maintains it’s own treasury for some Division expenses as
approved by the membership. This treasury is funded completely by
initiation fees and annual dues of it’s members, and by donations
received from some organizations that benefit from the Division’s
services, such as the County Fair Board, Chautauqua Lake Region Antique
Car Club, etc.
