The
Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force is a unique regional approach to
combating the possession and sale of illegal drugs in Chautauqua County.
The task force is made up of officers from police agencies from
Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegheny, and Wyoming counties. The local
office includes members from the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office,
Jamestown Police Department, Dunkirk Police Department, and the New York
State Police.
The efforts of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force remains strong
as the number
of A-1 felony cases remains consistent with other years
investigating the upper level drug traffickers. |

The
task force officers work throughout the county to identify and arrest
drug dealers and users. Crack cocaine as well as all other forms of
Narcotics use and sale is in our county and is a major challenge to all
law enforcement. |
| They
also spend many hours combating the “street level” drug traffickers.
There is a significant increase in heroin cases as well marihuana
cases, both which are mainly street drugs. An alarming fact is that
these increases are including younger age groups.
As a result,
efforts have
increased to investigate and arrest distributors of street level drugs throughout
Chautauqua County. |

Combating
drug use and sales is not an easy task. Block grants are obtained when
available to target specific drug use areas including parks and
public areas throughout Chautauqua County.
This has proven to be very
successful and has resulted in dozens of arrests. |
